Common Questions About Personal Training

  • DescriNot at all.

This is personal training—everything is built around you and your starting point. This isn’t bootcamp or random “beasting” sessions.

In fact, I enjoy working with people who feel unfit. It’s the perfect time to build good technique and habits from the ground up.

And it’s always a buzz when you realise how far you’ve come after the first 6 weeks.ption text goes here

  • This is a big part of what I do.

We take your injury history into account and build your training around it—while also spotting issues before they become injuries.

If you’re working with a physio, it’s best to get the all-clear first. I’m also happy to liaise with them so we’re all working towards the same goal.

If you’re unsure, just get in touch—I’ll always give you honest advice on your next step.escription text goes here

  • It depends—but most people need to train 2–4 times per week to see real progress.

That doesn’t mean all sessions need to be with me.

All your training is planned out for you, and you’ll have access to it via my coaching app so you always know what to do.

If you’re new, I’d usually recommend starting with two sessions per week with me while you build confidence and technique.Description text goes here

  • You’ll train in one of two private personal training studios in Islington.

    • No crowds

    • No waiting for equipment

    • No people sitting on machines scrolling their phones (my pet hate)

Both studios are well-equipped and within a 10-minute walk of Barbican, Angel, and Old Street. tube stations.Item description

  • We establish your starting point.

We’ll begin with a movement assessment (nothing too dramatic—you’ll spend part of it lying down while I assess how you move).

    From there:

    • We identify any mobility restrictions

    • Introduce simple exercises to improve them

    • Go through the key movements you’ll be using

If appropriate, we may also do some basic strength testing.

    You’ll leave knowing exactly what you’re doing—and why..Item description

How It Works

  • We start with a relaxed, no-pressure conversation to understand you properly.

    We’ll cover:

    • Your goals and what you want to achieve

    • Your training history (if any)

    • Any injuries or limitations

    • Your lifestyle, schedule, and potential obstacles

    • Anything else you believe I need to know

This gives us a clear picture of where you are now—and where you want to get to.

  • Next, we establish your baseline so your training is tailored from day one.

    This may include:

    • A simple movement assessment

    • Strength and fitness testing (at a level appropriate for you)

    • Body measurements (if relevant to your goals)

    • Lifestyle and nutrition habits (e.g. food diary if needed)

Everything is adapted to your current ability.

  • Using everything we’ve learned, I design a personalised plan that fits your life—not the other way around.

    We’ll:

    • Start training with a clear structure and purpose

    • Focus on what works best for you

    • Make adjustments early to ensure it’s sustainable

The goal is to build momentum without overwhelm.

  • This is where real progress happens.

As you get stronger and more confident, we:

    • Progress your training safely and effectively

    • Track improvements against your starting point

    • Adjust the plan based on what’s working (and what’s not)

    • Keep you accountable and consistent

You’ll always know what you’re doing—and why you’re doing it.

Client Results

Having not trained properly for several years I was suffering from shoulder and back ache from sitting for most of the day and when I did intermittently get to the gym. Using his immense knowledge of biomechanics, Niall worked with me to identify some key mobility and postural issues and focused our sessions on those. Each week he would work with how I was feeling and designed training plans to suit my preferences.
I'm feeling almost zero pain and a whole lot stronger.

Fiona Hamilton (Customer Success Manager)

Niall been a rock, patient, funny, supportive, enthusiastic and strict when he’s had to be? Yes. I’ve lost the weight and added muscle. I feel happier, fitter, healthier and I look better than I have for years. I can’t recommend Niall enough.

Max Usher - Barrister

Niall is an incredible personal trainer. He is very smart and, whilst massively helping me with my fitness regime, he has also fixed my back and shoulder problems that were plaguing me for years. Totally different to the competition and I thoroughly recommend.

Dean Jones - CEO Jones Chase

Having had two spinal surgeries, a spinal infection, and two shoulder surgeries I had finally admitted that I was getting older and less wise, by keep getting injured, and decided to take some time out of training to rehab. Niall has been amazing. We started slow and steady, his knowledge around anatomy, physiognomy and his practical and thoughtful approach to training has been revolutionary for me. He listens to my goals, helps moderate and inform them, and then helps me get there. I can honestly say I’ve spent a long time over the last two decades trying to get some structure to my training and myself, and he’s turned it around in less than six months. I’m dead lifting now which a year ago would have put me in hospital. Awesome dude.

Nial Goodman - Saltus Capital

Niall’s attention to detail is second to none.

Not only does he get every last inch of activation from your muscles, he’s also an encyclopaedia of recovery and nutritional advice that has been vital to the many positive changes I’ve had with my health and physique.

You’ll be amazed by the development of muscles in your body you didn’t know you had.
